Andy asks a fan question: Where did Zach get his kicks?

Zach:  My kicks are ummm… a company called [checks label] Clae which is C L A E. I stole them from someone actually.

Andy: Oh, you did?

Zach: I did, yeah, they’re mine now.

Andy: Oh, ok.

Allison: That might be a new question.

Andy: I know, who did you steal them from?

Zach: Somebody….

Andy: I like it. The name rhymes with Bris Fine.

Just like Kirk and Spock in “Star Trek Into Darkness,” Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto have developed a relationship that’s seemingly built on a firm bedrock of respect and bewilderment. While attending the red carpet premiere of “Star Trek Into Darkness” in New York City, the two actors revealed that their relationship toward each other has grown to be as playfully opposed as the Enterprise’s captain and his first officer.

“The worst thing is that Zach likes to play these ridiculous vocabulary games,” Pine revealed, “which he will tell everybody he wins, which is such a crock of bullsh—.”

“I think we both have a healthy sense of competition, which infuses our dynamic a little bit with an edge of humor and spontaneity,” says Quinto, kind of proving Pine’s point by using a phrase like “infuses our dynamic a little bit.”

But this friendly competition goes hand-in-hand with the roles the two actors have successfully brought to the big screen. When they debuted in 1966, William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy’s clashing portrayal of Kirk and Spock became one of pop culture’s most enduring bromances. Whatever their differences in philosophy, the two characters grew to depend on each other… much like Pine and Quinto.

“When you’re talking about exhaustion and depending on someone to answer questions all day long, you can depend on Zachary Quinto because that man can run words together like it is going out of style,” Pine reveals about his co-star. “You’ll see me in interviews and a question will be asked and I’ll just [go] ‘uh-huh, uh-huh’… and I’ll just look at Zach and Zach will take it away.”

Of course, sometimes Quinto has to take it away, like when Pine gets one of his debilitating cases of the munchies.

“The worst thing is, you’ve never met somebody who goes from totally normal to ‘I have to eat right now,’ says Quinto of Pine. “So we’ll be in the middle of an eight-hour day of press, and then he’ll just like hold the phone while he eats his oatmeal.”

Pine’s defense: “Yeah man, it’s like a blood sugar thing.”
